Choosing the POS marking system in the restaurant

Publicat pe 01 July 2020

The modern marking system, POS or ePOS, is the restaurant software that can make a difference for the success of the place. It has evolved from a system that only took orders into a tool that streamlines every aspect of the restaurant business.

The decision to introduce or change the marking system in a restaurant is a decision that requires a complete evaluation process and takes into account several elements: the strategy and needs of the place, how will it be accepted by the place staff and customers, and last but not least, the profitability.

Throughout this evaluation process, there are several key areas that need an increased attention:

1. Positive experience for the customers of the place

The first wish of each restaurant is to have customers satisfied with the services provided. A restaurant POS system can improve the customer experience, because the modern marking software goes beyond the classic order placement function and offers new functionalities required by the market.

Through the “Recommendations” function of the Breeze system, the staff is confident to give the right answer to the customer's question “What can you recommend as a side dish?” or “Which is the right wine / liqueur for the ordered dish?” These recommendations are already entered into the system, and are accessible to the place staff at all times. In addition, a modern marking system will also provide information on the ingredients of the dishes offered in that place, the offer of the day, or combo menus.

2. Use of the software by the staff

It is not enough for a POS system to be advanced only through its functionalities. A very good POS system is differentiated by the fact that it is intuitive, easy to learn and easy to navigate. In the Horeca field, the staff turnover is faster than in other areas, so the training time for the marking system becomes a valuable indicator for the efficiency of the restaurant.

3. Integration

The integration with accounting interfaces is indispensable for a marking system. By directly integrating the marking system with the accounting program, the double work process is avoided and the accuracy of the data entered into the system is increased.

4. Mobility

A quick takeover of the order increases the degree of customer satisfaction. The mobility enables the decrease of the order time, and increases the table turnover rate. How? Installation of marking software on mobile electronic devices, i.e. tablets. With this solution, the waiter can mark the ordered products at any time and is always close to the customers.

5. Initial investment costs

The on-premise solutions involve additional investments in equipment and servers that store either the application, or its data. A cost-effective and efficient solution is investing in a Cloud solution. These solutions provide the update of the security component and software, which will run in the background of the program, providing business continuity in that place without unwanted operational discontinuities.

6. Real-time data access

Using a desktop to store data related to a certain place does not take into account the work schedule. Any required recording, editing, or access to reports outside the business hours will only be possible from that place. Instead, a POS system provides access to data from any place, from any device, and allows changes to be made, no matter from where they are made. The mobility is important for business people and a suitable solution meets this need.

7. Reporting

The F&B places can generate a wealth of data that provides support both in building strategies and in identifying areas for improvement. To use these data at their true value, a smart reporting solution is needed to provide relevant statistics and key business indicators. You should analyse the values that matter to your business and identify the suitable POS software for real-time reporting.

A suitable Point of Sale is the one that understands the needs of the place, adapts to these needs and always supports the increase of restaurant sales.
